Top bloggery!

Iain Dale has unleashed his booklet 'Iain Dale's Guide to Political Blogging in the U.K' ( pdf) and it is very exciting to see some of my favourite blogs and bloggers not only listed, but making the top 30 of the UK's Top 100 political Blogs!

1. Guido Fawkes ('Subversive gossip. Consistently provacative- the press chase his stories')
3.Iain Dale ('Commentary & gossip from a Conservative A'lister - often makes the news')
9. NHS Blog Doctor ( 'Dr Crippen's day-to-day experience as a GP in the NHS - horrifying stuff')
14. Bloggerheads ( 'Tim Ireland's explosive site which delights in attacking just about everyone')
17. Bob Piper ('Old Labour and proud of it - the Tyrannosaurus Rex of Labour blogs')
19. Chicken Yoghurt. ( 'Political critique from Brighton. Leftish, but not party political')
22. Tim Worstall (The grandaddy of prolific political blogging - independent-minded)
25. Rachel from North London ( '7-7 bombing victim has broadened her blog from her 7-7 experience')

(Wah-hey! And I am the only gurl in the Top 25! C'mon ladies, hit the keyboards. The personal is the political, remember, sistas?)

26.Blairwatch ('Only one aim - to get rid of Tony Blair - soon to become obsolete?')

Mmm, for me it kinda defies the object of blogging to start ranking and classifying and such like. That's just me though. I suppose people have different motives.

I've just read Iain Dale's guide and it nearly made me puke. Have these middle-aged London-based Tories and PR consultants only just discovered the internet? It's quite embarrassing how he has the audacity to put himself at no. 3!

I just think these guys live in a bubble and it appears they're now trying to claim the "blogosphere" (whatever that is) as part of that bubble. And all of a sudden it's this powerful, influential, amazing, wonderful, agenda-setting medium... because Adam Boulton says so. How ironic.

Well, yes, and this is how history is rewritten and Tories invented blogging. But perhaps the Left & Liberal bloggers should have been bolder? Or maybe it is an opposition thing?

I agree with fridge, Harry's is NOT a lefty blog. But of course arguing about it is what we are all meant to do. And I agree with d.b that blogging isn't about ranking either, but I am still excited, because I was always last to be picked for thenetball team at school and this has helped to heal the ghastly scars.

The good thing is, that it does cover a lot of blogs, and it will stimulate debate, and raise profiles - I have already discovered some great new vioces through browsing this afternoon, and I am pleased for bloggers I know who were picked up.

It is tiresme that the Right are acting as if they invented blogging. We on the left of centre should stir ourselves more. New Labour control freakery I expect that's why there are so few iteresting Labour bloggers. And being in opposition makes better copy.

What a load of shit - you can tell how biased it is that Lenin's Tomb doesn't appear anywhere on that list - it has to be one of the top visited blogs in the UK, just must be a little bit too far left for them to be admitted. Stephen Pollard at 21? What kind of a joke is that? Harry's Place is the meeting place for all the pro-war "lefties", which shows how much the compiler knows. Also strange that Daniel Finkelstein's Times blog which has existed for less than two weeks is on there, but Comment is Free isn't.

And the right-wing sites aren't clearly out performing the "left" by any stretch of the imagination, simply that the Conservatives that are blogging are far better connected than those on the left that are.

"It is tiresme that the Right are acting as if they invented blogging. We on the left of centre should stir ourselves more."

Indeed but if they're the ones stimulating the dead tree media they effectively become gatekeepers. It's not, in the long term, in the interest of rightwing blogs to allow lefty blogs the same level of 'influence'.

Interesting list though, food for thought and yeah left/left o' centre really should do something similar...

Something that made me laugh was he ranked Pickled Politics number 10 in the LibDem blogs! Even though (as far as I'm aware we're non partisan).

Heh, noticed you've added the "I'm in the list image" might have to photoshop that for my personal blog into a bitter "I'm not on the list nobody is talking about"!:P

How do you think this particular sea-creature feels, to find itself sandwiched between Peter Hitchens and Jeffery Archer?

I've occassionaly commented on Iain's blog, but his list thing has made me realise what an anodyne load of twaddle it really is. Not the list as such, he's perfectly entitled to do that if he wants, but the "Top Blog" is just such a load of self-aggrandising excreable rubbish that there's no possible honour in being part of it.

Maybe Mrs Dale's list does have a use, it got that out of me :o)

Rachel, how can you say HP is not a leftie blog? If you could show me a conservative leaning HP article I would be grateful...
